[Central Information Agency] Dr. Nivison – former director of Stanford University’s Asian languages department will come to Taipei from America on the 26th to establish Stanford’s Chinese Cultural Research Center.
This Chinese Cultural Research Center is Stanford’s fifth international campus. The other campuses are located in Stuttgart, West Germany; Tours, France; Florence, Italy; and Tokyo, Japan.
Stanford’s Chinese Cultural Research Center is temporarily located on the campus of National Taiwan University, and has already invited Dong Tonghe as an consultant, Chin K’ai, and Kao Gung-Yi to act as the respective adviser and administrators of the program.
Dr. Nivison was accompanied to Taipei this spring by Stanford professors, Dr. Brooke and Dr. James Liu Tzu-Jien to set up the research center.
Eleven Stanford students will come to Taipei in September to study for the 1962-63 academic year, where they will conduct their research. These are regular Stanford students.
Setting up the Chinese Cultural Research Center is a central part for Stanford. The center’s academic curriculum and Stanford’s are the same. The goal of establishing the center is in making sure these students are able to acquire direct Chinese cultural experiences.
