Delegates from Stanford University Arrived Yesterday in Taiwan
Considering the Establishment of a Research Center within the Republic of China

[Central News Agency dispatch] The United States’ Stanford University has dispatched a committee led by Chinese History Research Chairman, Dr. E. Howard Brooks, who is joined by two other directors from the university’s East Asian Languages Department as committee members, General Research Committee Chairman, Dr. Valkenburg, and Education Department professor Dr. Hanna.
Upon landing at the airport, Dr. E. Howard Brooks informed reporters that the goal of the delegation is to better understand the educational circumstances in Taiwan in order to decide if it is a suitable location for the establishment of the university’s China Research Center.
At the airport to welcome the delegates from Stanford University, Ministry of Education Director Huang Jilu, expressed that the American university’s Chinese Research Center would be directed towards the research of Chinese history, culture, and language, and that the delegates’ visit to Taiwan would promote Chinese-American cooperation with the goal of important educational and cultural exchange. Director Huang hopes that after visiting China, the delegates will select Taiwan as the location for the university’s Chinese Research Center.
Dr. E. Howard Brooks and four other committee members will be participating in 14 days of afternoon sightseeing, including a trip to Yang Ming Mountain and Tamsui, in addition to a banquet hosted by the Associate Cultural Director of the American Embassy, Mr. Liu Yichang. Starting on their fifteenth day the delegates plan to embark on visits to National Taiwan University, Provincial Taiwan Normal University, the Academia Sinica, Dong Hai University, and Provincial Cheng Gong University, as well as a formal meeting with President Chiang and Vice President Chen, a visit to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and with US Ambassador Everett Drumright.
The delegation is scheduled to depart from Taiwan after 20 days, flying next to Hong Kong.
